Our Catholic tradition has always taught that the human body is sacred, and that all people are made in the image and likeness of God.
Because we know that our work with children is a sacred trust, we have fully implemented The Charter and Norms for the Protection of Children and Young People by conducting criminal record checks on all Church employees and volunteers who work with children, youth or vulnerable adults.
This include catechists, classroom aides, chaperones, children’s liturgy of the word leaders, communion ministers to group homes and the homebound, sacristans, music directors, accompanists and any other people who would potentially be alone with children (though policies call for a team approach in ministering – i.e. an adult would never be alone with just one child).
We require that all volunteers be trained in Creating a Safe Environment (CASE) every 3 years. (Staff have a separate training called Safe and Sacred.) CASE may be completed during a session held at any school or church in our diocese. It may also be completed online at home or in the parish office.
For more info about CASE – contact our CASE Coordinator, Corynn Shaw in the Faith Formation Office at 338-1146 or Corynn.firstname.lastname@example.org.
