The “Liturgy” or Mass is the prayer of the Church and a faith community.
In ministering to the liturgy we fulfill our baptismal call of service to one another by utilizing our God given gifts ensuring life-giving, spiritually fulfilling celebrations for our faith community and parish family.
We encourage you to prayerfully consider one of the liturgical ministries. Training sessions are provided and are suited to your schedule. St. Kateri uses an on line program for scheduling and it is a convenient way to obtain ministry information and communicate with other St. Kateri liturgical ministers.
Here are the ways we are called to serve the liturgy aiding in the prayer of our parish family.
Altar Server – assists the priest at the altar. This ministry is for anyone age 10 and up. Commitment 1-2 times a month.
Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist – assists the Presider in distributing Holy Communion, the Body and Blood of Christ. The faithful coming forward to receive the Body and Blood of Christ is a powerful moment in our liturgy. Commitment 1-2 times a month
Commentator – proclaims the Announcements and the Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful) at mass. A Commentator should be comfortable with public speaking and can communicate effectively and clearly. A Commentator can also serve as a Lector.
Lector – proclaims readings from Holy Scripture. A lector should have a passion for Scripture, a willingness to interpret, understand and research the readings. A Lector can also serve as a Commentator. Commitment 1 time a month.
Sacristan – coordinates the ministers at a given Mass and prepares all the elements that will be needed for the celebration (bread, wine, sacred vessels, etc.) Commitment 1-2 times a month.
Hospitality Ministry (formerly Ushers and Greeters) – assist in the important area of hospitality, ensuring that: all are welcomed with a warm smile and friendly greeting, find a seat; know where to find what they need; seating is arranged for those with special needs; collections are taken and secured; emergencies are responded to, etc.
